The reservoir El Yeso is a reservoir of Chile located in the mountain range of the Andes at an altitude of 2,500 msnm, in the commune of San José de Maipo, Province of Cordillera, Metropolitan Region of Santiago.
El Yeso reservoir is located in the interior area of the so-called Cajón del Maipo adjacent to the Laguna Negra and is formed by capturing the waters of the Yeso River, one of the most important tributaries of the Maipo River. The dam was built for ten years and was inaugurated in 1964. The reservoir has a capacity of 253 million cubic meters, being the main source of drinking water for the seven million inhabitants of the Metropolitan Region and the Santiago conurbation.
